When building a profitable practice, being comfortable will cost you. Why should you leave your comfort zone? Sure, it’s good for you. Everyone talks about how much you’ll learn and grow through struggle. You’ve probably even had some experiences that have taught you those very things. It doesn’t make it any easier, though, does it? After all, comfort zones are relaxing. There’s very little stress. Life is pretty easy from the comfort zone. But is it good for you?

Check out these truths and see if perhaps you might be missing out on something important:

1. You’re not living. The comfort zone is all about the status quo. But what are you really doing if nothing ever changes? You’re following routines for the day. You’re drifting along without any huge ups and downs. You’re there, but you’re not there. Where are the highs and lows? Where’s the excitement? Where’s the surprise and a heartbreak and everything in between? Life is all about living in a wide range of emotions brought about by a slew of experiences. At some point, we all need some life in our lives. Otherwise, what’s the point?

2. You’re never showing what you know. You’ve picked up a vast store of knowledge through the years. Some things you’ve gained through personal experience. Others you’ve read about or witnessed others learning. Altogether, this makes up all kinds of information you never get to use if you’re hanging around your comfort zone. While it’s great to learn things, theoretical knowledge isn’t much good. If it’s never put into practice. Wouldn’t you like to see what it’s like to put all this information to work? In fact, you might even find out it’s pretty gratifying to see you know what you’re doing after all.

3. You get a chance to fail. Comfort zones are safety nets. You’re not likely to meet disaster while sitting still. Discomfort though, means trying out new ideas, and sometimes missing the mark completely. This is actually a good thing. Failing is an important part of life. Here, you learn everything from handling defeat to how to take away valuable lessons from experience. Failure teaches us it’s okay to mess up sometimes, taking away the fear that typically holds us back from trying new things.

4. You never rise. Comfort zones will never take you to wild crazy success. Of course, you can do well at what you do. But you’re never going to score big, become famous, or enjoy winning accolades from there. Discomfort means rising in big ways to meet challenges. When this pays out, the result is often incredible.

The discomfort zone might be a little daunting, but it’s definitely worth it when you weigh it against staying put. After all, you want to be your best self, don’t you? It’s definitely time to step out of your comfort zone and into the life you’re meant to lead.
