You’re juggling patient care, paperwork, billing nightmares, staff issues, and the existential dread of wondering if you’re really cut out for this private practice life. You’re moving fast, checking boxes, grinding every day—yet still feeling stuck, behind, and burned out.
You don’t need another podcast episode or one more how-to article on starting a practice. What you need is immersion. Not dipping your toes in. Not “weekend course” learning. I’m talking about going all in—just like a poker player betting their last chip.
That’s where transformation happens.
The Trap: Multitasking + Mental Fog
Too many physiatrists are trapped in the productivity paradox: we’re busy, but not effective. We move from task to task with shallow focus, never really engaging deeply with anything. The result? Mediocre outcomes and mental fatigue.
It’s the business version of trying to do 20 reps with bad form—inefficient, painful, and prone to injury (aka burnout). And here’s the kicker: it’s not that you’re bad at business. It’s that you haven’t gone deep enough to truly master it.
The Truth: Growth Demands Full Immersion
Immersion means eliminating distractions, going deep, and staying present. It’s how we learned to master clinical skills—and it’s how you’ll master your business.
When I was building my practice, I stopped multitasking and started immersing. I didn’t just “read about” systems—I created them. I didn’t just watch others market their services—I immersed myself in branding, funnels, and feedback.
And that’s when it clicked: the more immersed I became, the more profitable—and peaceful—my practice became.
The Strategy: How to Go “All In” as a Physiatrist CEO
Here’s how to immerse yourself like your future depends on it (because it does): • Use All Your Senses: Read, watch, listen, do. Learn through conversations, case studies, even your EMR workflows. • Eliminate Distractions: No notifications, no split screens. Give your business the same respect you give your patients. • One Thing at a Time: Don’t revamp your whole practice in a weekend. Tackle one area—billing, scheduling, marketing—and dive deep. • Consult Experts: Join a mastermind. Shadow someone who’s done it. Ask the questions you’re scared to ask. • Be the Student Again: Remember how humbling med school was? Embrace that mindset again. You’re not behind. You’re building.
The Payoff: Peace, Profit, and Power
When you go all in—when you truly immerse—you stop surviving and start scaling. You stop reacting and start leading. And instead of asking, “Am I doing this right?” You start saying, “I know exactly what my practice needs next.”
Dr. Hassan’s Note:
Physiatrists, you’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re just working with a model that was never designed to teach you how to lead a business. The business of medicine won’t be mastered by accident. But if you’re ready to go all in, I’ll show you how to build a profitable, independent practice that gives you freedom—not just more work.
Let’s stop dabbling. Let’s go deep. Because the only way to win at this game… is to immerse yourself in it.
