When building your profitable practice, it’s important to be your true self. After all, the best you is the true you. Courses, books, and one-on-one coaching are huge moneymakers in the self-help and self-improvement industries. Billions of dollars are generated yearly by people who want to transform their lives. They want to lose excess weight and keep it off once and for all. Their goal might be to achieve financial independence and never again have to worry about money.

Weight loss and wealth achievement are two of the most common topics in self-improvement. People want to know what to do to achieve these and other important goals. This is true emotionally and spiritually, physically and financially, mentally, and in their relationships.

They want to become a better version of themselves. They work very hard, sometimes spending considerable money. There’s no lack of motivation, determination, or hard work. Many times, immediate progress is made.

Then something rather predictable happens to a lot of these driven individuals. Their progress slows, and before they know it, they’re right back where they started.

This can cause a lot of frustration. Eventually, a few months or possibly a year later, this same person goes back through this process and fails to make a lasting change again. This cycle of motivation, hard work, and partial or total failure continues to pump billions of dollars into the self-improvement industry.

We say that sometimes this is predictable because, in many cases, the change sought doesn’t match up with the values of the individual working so hard to make it happen.

How Many Times Each Day Do You See Marketing Messages?

People studying such things tell us that the average person receives hundreds of marketing messages daily. Some estimates have this number at well over a thousand. While you might think those are gross overestimations, consider this.

Are you on any email newsletters? People are marketing to your email inbox. How often do you see a commercial or advertisement on your television or online trying to sell you something? While scrolling through the World Wide Web on your phone or tablet, how many banner ads, in-text links, pop-up ads, and other marketing messages appear on your display?

Even if they are not the focal point of your attention, your brain is absorbing those messages. Your senses are constantly monitoring your environment and any possible influences they find. While you may not think they’re influencing you, these messages are being processed subconsciously.

Minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, this relentless bombardment continues. It can cause you to chase after goals that aren’t really true to who you are. You unconsciously start to believe what marketers are telling you.

Make a list of your core values. These are the things you believe, the true portrayals of who you are and what’s important to you. Then use them to make positive changes in your life. Wanting to become better is a worthy goal. Working to become your truest self will be the most fulfilling and rewarding path for the unique person that you are.
